Gas prices are freaking ridiculous right now! I don't care who you are, paying over four bucks a gallon sucks and sucks hard. And unfortunately the government is not doing a dang thing to help. They just want to bat the gas price issue back and forth to score political points. While they argue over platitudes, we all suffer. They hardly even bother to put out any information either as to the best ways to improve gas mileage. What a crock!
We have created this page in an effort to help bring some relief. And what could be better than mixing some beautiful babes with some good old fashioned money saving advice? Nothing in our humble opinion. So without further delay, here are the best ways to improve gas mileage tips and tricks we could turn up. After reading this, if you think you know of better ways to improve gas mileage, please send them in.
Get your car tuned up by a knowledgeable mechanic. Having an incorrect fuel mix ratio, bad spark plugs, clogged fuel injectors and incorrect spark plug timing are all gas mileage killers.
Try not to use your air conditioner. A far better alternative is to just turn on the vent fan without using the A/C compressor. The compressor puts a major drag on your engine.
Make sure your tires are inflated to their maximum level. Look in your owner's manual or on the side of the tires for the proper maximum psi level. Under inflation of your tires can cause more rolling resistance and kill your mpg. Also, the next time you buy tires, consider ones that can tolerate a higher psi level.
Try to avoid stop and go traffic like the plague. Take alternative routes or make sure to travel at times with less traffic. Anytime you must stop and go, you are wasting energy big time.
If you have a newer car, you may have a built in electronic instant MPG gauge. If you do, get in the habit of watching it and adjusting your driving style to maximize your average mpg. Simply paying attention to this will make a huge improvement. If you don't have a MPG gauge, you may be able to find an after market one that will work with your car.
Use a good engine oil and have it changed at the proper interval. Also, synthetic oils are often far superior to conventional oils and up your MPG. Proper oil maintenance has been known to improve fuel efficiency by up to 20%. That's nothing to sniff at.
Lighten the weight of your vehicle as much as possible. Look around inside and get rid of everything that you do not need. Clean out that trunk. Get rid of extra baggage. And it has been a growing trend for commuters to even remove extra seats in their cars to reduce weight. Every pound you can remove will improve your MPG, so get creative.
Make it a habit to use your cruise control as much as you can. This will keep your car from accelerating and decelerating at high speed due to human error. The more consistent you can keep your speed, the better.
Slow down. Reducing your highway speed is one of the easiest ways to save BIG mpg. If you do the math, going 55 or 65 really doesn't get you there much slower than going 75 or 85, but you will save huge at the pump. Besides, you'd be surprised how much more relaxed you'll feel when you aren't driving like a maniac.
Try to improve the aerodynamics of your car or truck. Big luggage racks and light bars may look cool, but are a wind drag. Also, if you drive a truck, get one of those bed covers. On the TV show Mythbusters they proved that having the tailgate up or down doesn't do much, but a bed cover does.
Don't tailgate. It is a popular and true principle that drafting off the car in front of you can improve your mpg, but it is way too dangerous. A better alternative is to increase your following distance that way you can anticipate when traffic is slowing and coast more instead of having to slam on your brakes all the time.
Don't punch it off the line! You may look cool when you smoke the competition, but it just isn't worth it. Make gradual starts and gently come up to speed.
Don't be scammed by some of the gimmicks out especially the one like running your car on water, etc. The "run your car on water" thing is the biggest load of crap ever. Just look up HHO in Wikipedia and you'll see that the original supposed inventor of the contraption was exposed as a fraud years ago. Because of the high gas prices right now, a whole new batch of scammers are profiting by selling this crock.
There will be more coming soon, so check back. Hope this
helps!
Now check out these babes and forget about gas for a minute.
