Biography of Jessica Simpson

Jessica Simpson was born July 10, 1980 in Dallas, TX to proud parents Joe and Tina Simpson. Little did the two parents know at the time, but the new small bundle of joy they were holding would soon take the entertainment world by storm.

Jessica quickly began to display her talent while a member of her local Baptist church choir where her father worked as youth minister. While there her talent developed and began to gather attention. When she was 12, Jessica auditioned for a part on the Mickey Mouse Club, but was unfortunately rejected. Her first break came at age 13 when she sang Whitney Houston’s hit song “I Will Always Love You” at a church summer camp. In the audience sat a man who owned a gospel music label and he immediately recognized the obvious talent and value of an untapped source.

Soon Jessica was touring with the Christian Youth Conference and would often perform for thousands of people singing different songs, but most notably singing the hit “True Love Waits”. During this time she often shared billing with popular songsters such as God’s Property, Kirk Franklin, and Ce Ce Winans. Jessica was a true hit on the Christian circuit, but sought to expand her career. Worth noting is the fact that during this time, Jessica never seemed to lose her grounding as she was elected as Homecoming Queen two years in a row at her local J.J. Pierce High School.

Jessica soon signed with Columbia Records and soon released her first album titled Sweet Kisses. This album helped catapult her into stardom with hits like “I Wanna Love You Forever” and “I Think I’m In Love”. Jessica also spent time opening for the popular boy band 98°, a move that would prove to be a turning point in her future. While on tour, Jessica developed a widely known romance with 98° lead man Nick Lachey.

In the Spring of 2001 Jessica released her second album, Irresitable. The album arrived with much anticipation and hype, but somehow did not connect and sales were rather sluggish. Many in the industry were quick to write Jessica off as a one-hit wonder, but Jessica never gave up hope on herself.

In 2002 Jessica and her long-time love interest, Nick, finally took the plunge and were married. This move took the industry by surprise because just prior to their nuptials, Nick and Jessica went through a highly publicized break-up and separation. Nonetheless the two reconciled and were now newlyweds and were both in need of a career shot-in-the-arm.

Jessica appeared on TV in roles such as on That 70s Show, but it wasn’t until the start of her hit “Newlyweds, Nick and Jessica” that her TV career took off. Cashing in on the reality genre, MTV took a risk and handed Nick and Jessica their own show that was simply based on the awkward early dealings of a newlywed couple, with the added wrench thrown in of managing fledgling celebrity careers. The show was soon a hit, mainly due to Jessica’s natural innocence and habit of spontaneously blurting instantly classic “blonde” one-liners. For example, fans of the show will always remember Jessica’s puzzled query about whether “Chicken of the Sea” brand tuna was chicken or fish. Many of these “blond-isms” were punctuated by a darting roll of the eyes by straight-man hubby Nick. The show was a hit and soon it was clear that a second season was to follow.

Jessica leveraged her new found fame and in 2003 released her latest album, In This Skin, which has out sold every other one of her albums to date. This new album features the hit “Sweetest Sin” and marks a new, much more adult contemporary sound to Jessica’s music. In the album, on which Jessica co-wrote many of the songs, a much more romantic and sultry woman appears. Jessica’s experience of love and intimacy comes through in a way that has never been evident before. These songs seem more real and genuine to the woman that the public has come to know.

Jessica’s next stage in her career has so far involved much more acting. Recently Jessica made her big screen debut playing the bombshell Daisy Duke in the remake of the hit classic TV show The Dukes of Hazzard. She also recorded the hit “These Boots Are Made for Walking” and an accompanying steamy video for the movie. Jessica has so far received praise from the critics for her acting chops. This role will no doubt lead to more offers in the future.

She has already expanded her business prowess into the world of beauty and clothing products. Currently her line of beauty product called Dessert can be found in stores with her new plus-sized clothing line coming in the near future.

Sadly, in December of 2005 the announcement was made that Jessica and Nick have decided to divorce. One can only speculate as to the reason, but surely the pressure of two separate demanding careers had to have played a role. Almost instantly the rumor mill started churning linking the two to different new partners, although both seem to still be playing the field.

The future looks bright for Jessica Simpson and we look forward to watching her star rise higher and higher.
