The Biography of Jessica Alba
Born April 28, 1981 in Pomona, CA, Jessica Marie Alba
almost instantly caught the acting bug. She claims she
knew she wanted to act by age 5, however her father, a member of the
United States Air Force, prevented any formal foray into acting by Jessica
by being constantly transferred. Jessica spent her childhood as an Air
Force brat with brief stays in Biloxi, Mississippi, California, Del Rio,
Texas and then finally settling back in Southern California when Jessica
was age 9.
Jessica Alba started taking formal acting classes at
age 12, and then only nine months later she had an agent. Her star was
just about its ascent. She made her feature film debut in a principal role
in 1993’s Hollywood Pictures’ comedy called Camp Nowhere. She landed the
large role by weird fate. She was originally cast in a very small role,
but when one of the main actresses suddenly dropped out of the movie,
Jessica was cast to replace her. Apparently Jessica was cast because her
brown hair was very similar to the actress who dropped out. Nevertheless,
Jessica ended the project with a major role under her belt.
Jessica Alba followed her role in Camp Nowhere by
landing parts in two national commercials for Nintendo and J.C. Penney.
Her appearance in the Nintendo gave just a glimpse of Jessica to millions
of techno-geeks who would coincidentally become her core fan-base later
on…more on that later. Also during this time, Jessica became a born-again
Christian, mainly to annoy her liberal-minded parents. She later broke
with the group.
In 1994, Jessica Alba started her TV career by
landing a role on Nickelodeon’s The Secret World of Alex Mack. She was
cast in the role of coincidentally “ Jessica” as a snobbish tormentor of
the title character play by Larisa Oleynik.
Later that year she landed a lead role, Maya, in the
remake of the TV show, Flipper. As an active swimmer and PADI certified
scuba diver, Jessica simply loved the role. She was quoted as saying she
simply loved playing with the dolphins. The success of the show allowed it
to play for two seasons, 1995 and 1996. Most of the show was filmed in
Australia. During her filming of Flipper, Jessica was actually kidnapped
and rescued by local authorities in the trunk of a car.
After Flipper wrapped, Jessica has worked steadily.
In 1996 she appeared in Venus Rising playing Young Eve. The same year she
appeared in the made for TV movie Too Soon For Jeff as well as a guest
role on Chicago Hope.
In 1998 she appeared in P.U.N.K.S. as well as a guest
role on Beverly Hills 90210. She also was in Brooklyn South as well as a
short role on the remake of the Love Boat.
Her fame blossomed with appearances in the Drew
Barrymore produced Never Been Kissed as well as the film Idle Hands. She
then appeared in Paranoid. Shortly thereafter Jessica Alba
auditioned for and landed the role that would make her a household name.
She was cast as Max in the James Cameron produced epic TV show Dark Angel.
Her sultry good looks and kick-butt nature made her an instant favorite
with many science fiction fans.
After the cancellation of Dark Angel in 2002, Jessica
turned back to the big screen. She has since had huge roles in
blockbusters such as The Sleeping Dictionary, Honey, Fantastic Four, Sin
City, and Into the Blue.
Jessica Alba’s star is rising and she now is one of
the most sought after actresses in Hollywood. With her drop-dead gorgeous
looks and her amazing talent, we will be seeing Jessica’s work for years
to come. |
